Writer's Guidelines
Connected Home Magazine helps IT professionals and technically savvy consumers implement home technologies and make them work together. We're looking for articles about how to set up, add on to, and maintain home technologies for our target audience-the early adopters who enjoy working and playing with computers, home entertainment and home automation technology, and devices and who like connecting all that technology. We want to keep our readers up-to-date about high-tech products and how to make them work securely and effectively.
Each issue will give our readers information about the latest in digital technology. We'll present hands-on, how-to explanations of home-computing technology with the same level of detail and experience that you've come to expect from the people who bring you Windows & .NET Magazine. For Connected Home Magazine, we'll cover networking, home controls, mobile and wireless technology, home office, digital audio and visual technology, and home theater.
Networking
The Networking section covers choosing and implementing broadband solutions and home-network options, setting up and securing wired and wireless connectivity, adding new devices and peripherals, evaluating firewall and other security solutions as well as networking equipment, and setting up and maintaining telecommuter solutions.
Home Controls
In the Home Controls section, we address home-automation technology, including home-security systems, automated lighting systems, and other "smart-home" technologies. We evaluate products and explain how to make this technology work effectively and with other home technologies.
Mobile & Wireless
Our Mobile & Wireless section offers how-to information about choosing wireless technologies, integrating PDAs, wireless phone, and email devices with home and work networks, implementing wireless networks, maintaining security in a wireless environment, and adding and troubleshooting devices.
Home Office
The Home Office section helps IT professionals who support telecommuters ensure that users have security, performance, and productivity in their home office. In addition, tech-savvy home workers can learn how to expand their work connectivity and network to include all the technology in their home. For example, we show readers how to work efficiently and securely over a broadband connection while the kids are gaming on the Internet. We help readers choose the right equipment, troubleshoot common problems, and select applications for home offices, and much more.
Audio
Our Audio section's readers learn how to make their music digital, how to work with their music collection, and make digital music available anywhere in the home or on the road. We provide tips for integrating current music technology-including players, receivers, speakers, and music sources-into a home network and other home entertainment systems.
Visual
The Visual section shows readers how to use the latest photo and video technology for maximum effect in the home. We provide how-to information about capture and editing software, video displays, making digital photography and video available throughout the home, and much more, as well as reader tips for publishing photography to devices and Web sites.
Home Theater
Our Home Theater section covers the products and technologies that readers need to know to integrate home theater systems with all their home technology. We discuss the latest developments in home theater technology and how it integrates with other home technology; display, viewing, and recording technology; and other related technologies.

How-to Feature Articles
