Choosing a Video Game System

Microsoft got a jump on its next-generation video game console competitors when it shipped the Xbox 360 in late 2005, but only now—over a year later—can we soberly evaluate each of the key systems and determine which offers the best value. Consumers can now choose between three modern video game systems: the Xbox 360, Sony's PlayStation 3, and Nintendo's Wii. As with the previous generation of consoles, each offers unique benefits and will appeal to certain kinds of users. But this time, the dynamics have changed dramatically, with each of the system makers taking its console into entirely new markets. Here's how the systems break down.

Xbox 360: The Most Versatile Console
In the previous generation, Microsoft's Xbox console was the favorite of hard-core gamers because it was the most muscular system, with broadband capabilities, an integrated hard drive, and other high-end specs. Now, Microsoft has forfeited the high end of the market to the PlayStation 3, although not by much. But no matter: Although the Xbox 360's graphics and sounds are about on par with what's available on the PlayStation 3, Microsoft makes up the gap in other, unexpected ways.

First, Microsoft's Xbox Live online service is dramatically more full-featured than Sony's weak PlayStation Network (PSN), although Sony could eventually make up the difference. (Microsoft's service can also be more expensive: If you want to deathmatch against other people online, you'll need to fork over $50 a year for the Gold version of Xbox Live.) Xbox Live offers downloadable game demos, Xbox Live Arcade games (typically $4 to $10 each) movie trailers, rentable TV show s and movies (some in HD), and other features. Best of all, Xbox Live is a completely connected experience. If you're playing, say, Gears of War online with your friends, and you see that another buddy has come online, you can invite him to join the fun. Conversely, he could see you in Gears and decide to invite you to chat, or play a different game. Unlike with PSN, each game doesn't exist in its own virtual silo.

To attract the types of customers who wouldn't necessarily be interested in a high-end video game console, Microsoft has also made a big push into casual gaming. You'll see lots of titles such as Zuma and Ms. Pac-Man available on Xbox Live Arcade, for example, and even family-oriented games such as Viva PiƱata, which has proven to be a big hit with my daughter, who isn't particularly interested in video games.

The Xbox 360 also offers Media Center Extender functionality. So, if you've got a Windows XP Media Center 2005 or Windows Vista-based Media Center PC in your home, you can access all that live and recorded TV, video, music, and photo content from your Xbox 360, using a UI that perfectly duplicates the real thing. We're using an Xbox 360 in our den now, actually, and for the past two months, it's been my family's interface for the TV. It works extremely well, even with online services such as Movielink, which lets you rent and purchase digital versions of popular Hollywood movies. And if you don't have a Media Center PC, fear not: The Xbox 360 can also connect to any XP and Vista-based PC and stream music, photos, and videos. Got a portable device such as an Apple iPod? The Xbox 360 interfaces with those too.

If you're interested in next-generation DVD formats, Microsoft offers a $199 HD-DVD drive add-on for the 360. Keeping this device separate from the console necessitates a few trade-offs. On the positive front, the Xbox console itself is less expensive, so if you're not interested in HD-DVD now, you can forego that expense or opt-in in the future. On the negative side, because Microsoft bundles a standard DVD drive with its console, Xbox 360 games will never be able to access more than 8.5GB of data: You can't use the more voluminous HD-DVD for games because the drive is designed to play only movies.

Are there other downsides to the Xbox 360? You bet. The console is overly loud, particularly when you're playing a game or doing anything that accesses the DVD drive. This noise lessens the console's appeal as an all-in-one media device, because what you really want to hear is the content you're enjoying—not that little white jet engine under the TV. And the HD-DVD drive adds another level of unwelcome humming. There are also potential reliability issues. The original Xbox 360 I received in October 2005 died with the dreaded "red ring of death" in late 2006, and a unit I picked up for the den in December 2006 died earlier this month after no warning signs whatsoever. A quick look online reveals that many others have had similar problems. Color me concerned.

If you have a big library of original Xbox games, you should know that the Xbox 360's backward-compatibility capabilities are middling at best. Microsoft has only sporadically updated the console for compatibility over the past few years and will likely stop this work soon. That's no way to treat loyal customers.

PlayStation 3: For Hardcore Gamers and Spec Freaks
I've been waiting to get my hands on a PlayStation 3 since Sony allegedly released the machine in North America in November 2006. After a few months of shortages, I finally did. Today, the PlayStation 3 is generally available throughout many markets, and it will launch in Europe late this week.

If you absolutely must have the most powerful video game system on the planet, the PlayStation 3 is it. This console features better graphics and better sound than the Xbox 360, and if the console's first round of games is any indication, its game library will soon surpass that of the 360 from a quality perspective, as well. For the hundreds of millions of existing PlayStation and PlayStation 2 users out there, the PlayStation 3 Sixaxis controller will be welcome: It's virtually identical to the PlayStation 2 Dual Shock controller (but wireless, and minus the rumble feature).

The PlayStation 3, unlike the Xbox 360, is virtually silent, and that fact alone makes it very interesting for anyone looking for an uber-media device. The only problem is that the PlayStation 3's digital media capabilities are lacking (although evolving). Sony does offer its PSN, but as I noted above, it's not as full-featured as Microsoft's offering. On the plus side, it's absolutely free and will improve over time. Currently, you can purchase or download only a handful of PlayStation 3 (and, intriguingly, PlayStation Portable—PSP) games from the PlayStation Store, and you can plug in various USB-based storage devices to access media files. But there's no DVR solution such as Media Center, no networking with PCs, and no legally rentable or buyable movies and TV shows. Someday, perhaps.

Unlike the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 ships with a next-generation DVD drive—in this case, a Blu-ray model, and it's a winner (assuming you're utilizing a 720p or better HDTV). Sadly, Sony doesn't bundle the HDMI cable you'll need to access such a TV, which is curious given the high prices of the console ($500 to $600, depending on the version). Backward compatibility with previous-generation PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games, at least in the United States, is stellar. (I've heard that European PlayStation 3s might not be as good because of the lack of a compatibility chip in those models.)

Until Sony lowers its price, the PlayStation 3 will see limited success. But as this generation of consoles plays out over the next few years, I fully expect the PlayStation 3 to meet or exceed the quality of games offered on the Xbox 360. The only question is whether Sony can keep up in other areas.

Wii: For the Kiddie Crowd
Some people are going to find offense with my assessment of the Nintendo Wii, which has been widely cheered for foregoing high-end specs and sticking to the fun factor. And sure enough, the Wii is an innovative and cute little console that eschews high-end graphics features, along with the associated price of such technology. There's just one problem: For all its over-the-top cuteness, the Wii is a one-trick pony, and it fails to deliver on the all-in-one entertainment experiences that the Xbox 360 delivers in spades and the PlayStation 3 promises for the future.

Here's what you get: The Wii is the smallest and quietest of the consoles. It's also the least graphically and sonically impressive, and although Nintendo says it makes up for these shortcomings with its unique game play features, these get tiring after a while. Unlike other consoles, the Wii ships with a game disc, of sorts, that includes a handful of sports mini-games that work with the system's unique Wii Remote wireless controller, which looks more like a TV remote than a typical video game controller. The trick behind this controller, and its companion Nunchuk attachment, is that it features 3D motion detection, so when you need to swing a bat in a baseball game, whack a tennis ball, or perform other similar moves, you literally move the controller around as you would in real life. And sure enough, the first time you play with the Wii Remote, it's exhilarating. Credit Nintendo for coming up with something truly innovative.

The problems creep in about 30 minutes into this exercise. The Wii Remote will appeal to very young kids, college students, and—in a somewhat creepy way—adults hosting alcohol-laden social events, the novelty of the controller system quickly wears off. Even my kids, ages 5 and 8, tired of the Wii very quickly, but they go back to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 again and again.

Here's a more concrete example. Consider a game such as Call of Duty 3, which is available on all three platforms. On the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Call of Duty 3 is a graphical champion and offers stunning single-player and multiplayer options. And Activision, the game's maker, has already shipped downloadable levels to extend online play. On the Wii, Call of Duty 3 is grainy and unimpressive, and because of the limitations of the device, only the single-player campaign is available. And don't get me started on its use of the Nunchuk to throw in-game grenades. It's cute the first time, but it gets old quick.

More problematic: The Wii can't even play standard DVD movies, let alone next-generation DVD formats such as HD-DVD or Blu-ray, and there's no DVR functionality at all, so the device is useful for only games. You're going to have to keep your existing devices around.

In short, I'm not all that impressed with the Wii, and although I respect Nintendo for thinking differently and trying to make the device more about game play than raw specifications, the company has also succeeded in making something that is so singularly uninteresting that it's an also-ran in my book—and certainly with my own family. Tellingly, it's the only next-generation console we're going to get rid of.

What to Buy?
As I write this, I feel that the Xbox 360 remains the console to beat. It's the most versatile, and it offers a graphics experience that's close to what you'll find on the PlayStation 3. That said, I do have some concerns about the Xbox 360's reliability, so I'm going to recommend something I never do: Buy the console locally and purchase the in-store warranty so that you can replace it at any time free of charge.

If you absolutely must have the best game experience, the PlayStation 3 should ultimately win out, especially when developers begin to figure out how to unlock the console's most impressive capabilities. A year from now, I expect PlayStation 3 games to absolutely blow away anything available on the 360.

As for the Wii, I'm going to have to disagree with the consensus and call it as I see it: Unless you have very young kids, skip this console. The Wii is a novelty console that doesn't offer much staying power. Either the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 would be a better choice for almost anyone.

PS3? lol... Xbox 360 is the better console... so far... An example.. Devil May Cry 4 for Xbox 360!!! Wii for kids and casuals, PS3 for video game industry ignorants.... and the 360 is for every body... who really knows how the world of video game works

otakugamergt -March 20, 2007

Great article.

Give the PS3 a good year to catch up, I'm sure they will. It seems like the 360 has about 4 years left in it where as the PS3 has a good 10 years ahead of it.

Sony fan -March 20, 2007

I would tend to agree with you on many of your points. I differ on the following:

* PS3 "its game library will soon surpass that of the 360 from a quality perspective". I don't know if this will be the case. More and more, Playstation exclusives are moving to both platforms. As long as the XBOX360's are selling - which they are- there will be lots of games for it. And MS is getting better at snagging high profile exclusives, too!

* Wii "the Wii is a one-trick pony". While I am also less than impressed with the initial offerings of the Wii, you can't deny the potential for greatness as developers become more comfortable with the Wii Remote and its motion-sensing capabilities. When going from PS2 to PS3, all the programmers needed to do was improve the graphics. Gameplay remained the same. Now the Wii is asking developpers to do something that hasn't really been done before. There is a huge learning curve to this and I think it will be a while before the Wii's potential is fully realized. However, when it is, there will be tons of fun games that simulate drumming, shooting, golfing, sword-fighting, etc.

The 360 is only designed to be current for 4-6 years. So if the ps3 has ten years of life who cares. The next gen xbox will make it a mute point. It will be like owning a ps2 when the ps3 came out....

me -March 21, 2007

I also own all three consoles. The only thing I don't agree with in this is the suggestion on the warranty for the 360. In the box is a 2 year extended warranty offer for $59. This is about what you'd pay for the in-store extended warranty, but with a big difference: If your unit needs to be replaced, the in-store warranties are only good for the one unit, they don't carry over to the replacement unit. They will even try to sell you a new warranty for the replacement unit(!) this is pretty much true across all retailers. Manufacturer extended warranties are almost always better because they cover the full duration of the extended warranties no matter how many replacements you need.

This is even true if the original unit fails in the original manufacturer warranty period (even if it fails in the first few months!) - don't be burned by these in-store warranties they are a BAD deal (unless there's no extended warranty available from the manufacturer).

One other note: Several credit cards will give you buyer's protection or some other form of extended warranty through the credit card company. My American Express Gold Rewards card, for example, doubles any manufacturer's warranty for anything I buy on the card for anything up to $5,000. This is at no additional cost, it's just one of the perks of the card. Now that they've upped the standard warranty to one year if you use a card like this you don't even need an extended warranty for a 360.

xbox 360 has better graphics at the momenent fight night was voted to look munch better on 360 than ps3

clayton -March 21, 2007

The title "Choosing a Video Game System" contradicts what you're stating. You buy a gaming system to... game. I don't need my gaming system to play DVD when I already can do that with a DVD player. My computer can do that, too.

biased article -March 21, 2007

The xbox 360 has already won and is far better than its rivals xbox live is amazing and the ps3 online is terrible, also the ps3 is a rip off and sony are going to go bust in 2 years because of the PS3 it sicks so badly

Xbox 360 the best by far -March 21, 2007

"...Wii: For the Kiddie Crowd..." ?

I guess those "kiddies" have a lot of disposable cash; they bought 476,000 Wii's in the US in November but only 197,000 PS3s. Bill G. sold a respectable 511,000 Xboxes.

Sometimes Sony makes the mistake of making a great product, but not getting making it widely distributed enough to become a market standard (remember BetaMax?)

drkim -March 21, 2007

Good piece, but you neglect to, and to be honest - can't possibly, cover the EU launch of the game and the respective pricing. I'm from Bulgaria. The Xbox360 deal for the "System" package - that's the whole 9 yards - premium case, wireless controller, HDD etc. is priced at $614 at the current exchange rate. The Core Xbox - pretty much the console and a wired controller is $409. PS3 on the other hand has only ONE option which is priced at $745. From these two - the Xbox360 is the obvious choice, given that you even get Gears of War in the System Package. So its also a matter of local pricing and promotion!

Sunder -March 21, 2007

I bought the wii - I did not buy the PS3 or 360 because I have a computer that plays the high tech games and which exceeds the specs of both the 360 and PS3. Plus I like the nintendo games (i.e., twilight princess)

James Lundholm -March 21, 2007

I have had a wii for 3 months now. I have not had any sort of burn out, what so ever from playing wiimote based games. I play tennis almost every day for a half hour! Having said that, the new Zelda game cant compete with knights of the old republic or even halo 1 for that matter in terms of sound and visuals. The wii will tire you out if you are fat and lazy. It will be good for you if you want to stop being fat and lazy.

rob -March 21, 2007

I feel when I read alot of negative reviews about the PS3 it seems to be from people who dont even own one. It seems like they couldnt wait for a PS3 and bought a XBOX 360, and are now on some kind of an XBOX bandwagon. Well I waited for the PS3, and I am glad I did. I played the XBOX 360 alot while I was waiting for the PS3 to come out, and I liked it and everything, but I knew the PS3 would be awesome when it finally did come out. The PS3 has way more options gaming wise, and who cares if you cant link it with your computer to access files? The games out now for the PS3 look real good, and matter of fact just knowing that the new games coming out are only going to get better each time around..........It will only take a short amount of time until the PS3 passes and dusts the 360. There is only one thing I didnt like about the PS3, and that was the fact that they dont include the HDMI cable when I paid $599 for the 60gb. If you have a HD tv and the cable, the graphics are incredible.

Billy Wagner -March 21, 2007

The Wii is very fun to play. As an adult that never really plays video games I have played the Wii a lot. We have both the Wii and a Xbox 360 and I will play the Wii any time. The controller is the part I like, I can not seem to use the standard game controls for long. But I have spent hours with the Wii. I guess I grew up playing actual outdoor games and the Wii works like them

Jeff Rada -March 21, 2007

Ok, I really dislike "fanboys". We have had almost every "big name" consloe there is to be had. Currently have 360 and Wii; however, I have played the PS3 several times through a friend. I do not have an HDTV (but have seen 360 on one). Graphics are good on both but I like my computer better, it also cost me less than any console and does sooooo much more. I have a consloe for gaming and gaming online. The 360 is the winner here. If I here one more person (especially a "professional reviewer" complain about the $49 a year service fee I am going to stop reading them. I know at least a gazillian perople who spend over $300.00 a year playing WOW. That seems to me to make XBox Live a terrific deal. I think Sony has along way to go on it's service which has been around in one form or another for several years. I remember putting out $50 for my son's PS2 network adapter and he could never really play anything. I think MS made a mistake in the Premium and Core systems. The Core system should have been the currnt Premium and the Premium should have had a larger hard drive and an HD-DVD. Same goes for the PS3. I do not like a company who uses its popularity to force feed some new technology on me that I may or may not want or need. There base system is worthless as the 360 version. Finally the meager Wii, and I say that with affection. I think this review is completely wrong. I am 39 and my family has had "Wii Parties" several times with freinds. I cannot tell you how much fun we have had with it. Between Wii Sports and Rayman we have had hours of fun.I also believe that once programmers figure out how to use it you will see more support and better games from third party. Just look at Zelda. Also with access to all the Nintendo and Sega titles to become available it's dwarf price makes it a bargin for those out too have fun with family and friends. But alas the Wii has a fault which is also one of its best points. It's low price is due infact to it lack of grahics power. But again Zelda is a nice looking game. Enough rant, it is going to be a persoal choice, whether it is a high tech DVD machine, a online machine or a family oriented blast to the past. Also it depends on what you like to play.....No matter what you choose...GAME ON!!

Tbaker -March 21, 2007

I think the sales tell the story...the Wii has outsold both the 360 and PS3 by more than double and trying to get hold of a Wii is ny on impossible unless you pay over the odds...

MKTJF -March 22, 2007

I have not bought the wii or ps3 because i want to know which one is best wii or ps3 and Iv looked at the ps3 graphics an they almost look real but it seems like the wii is really fun so im asking what other people think of the ps3 and the nintendo wii.

zc -March 24, 2007

PS3 ROCKZ YALL!!!!!!!1

PS3 -March 28, 2007

lets talk about price.........the Wii: as long as you have a color tv the picture is great so no nead for a hdtv there also there has been no system problems to date so no repair prices which brings total to $250-$275.the PS3: color tv provides okay graphics but not the best so thats $250-$700 more plus $50 for system repairs brings total (w/ $250 tv and 30 gb) to $850-$900. X-box 360: the same but the total is $750-$800. so the winner by $500 is..... THE WII so why spend that much money at the begining when you can buy them for $100 less in 6 months

phil -March 30, 2007

I think the wii is best system price wise. Yeah sure all the other systems play hd and blue ray but why pay 500-600 for a system that acts like a computer? The ps3 has had problems along with the 360. I've played 500 hours on the wii, not a problem yet. For half the price and twice the fun why not? With the virtual console and the gaming exsperence.. its the best system to date. I bought the wii to play all my favorite nintendo game titles. Its what I'm going to continue to play untill the ps3 and x box come down in price, get better games and work out their problems.all I got to say is check March system sales. Nintendo kills the others in sales. The nintendo ds and wii run the market. And another thing ps2 sold more then its brother the ps3. X box? It does alright still holding it down at 2 game system. So the wii gets my vote.

Jeremy -April 8, 2007

Buy the PS3 it is the best out of the three...you will never get bored of it...i have been playing it for 3 months now and i cant stop...the other systems can not compare to it

Ryan -April 8, 2007

I got a 60g ps3 from my gf for my birthday. Had problems reading disc. Shipped it back they fixxed it. While that was going on I started playing my brothers nintendo. I enjoyed it so much I bought one a week later.upset about the whole ps3 thing I sold it on craigs list for close to what my gf paid for it.been playing the wii since love it. You have no idea how much this article has helped me out. I am in your debt, but I feel that I am obligated to speak my mind. Although I agree completely with everything you have said, I gotta say that I find the PS3 to be he more enjoyable gaming experience. Yes the all-in-one aspect is lacking, but I didn't buy it to be an all in one, cenre of the household kinda thing. I just bought it to play.

yall ps3 fans talk about all this so called power that it has but what about all the small things that add up????? like the ps3 having a 5x blu ray drive while the 360 has a 12x dvd drive thats why the system is so loud!!!! 360 reads games faster has better frame rates and loading times. the ps3 is unbalanced

Name (required): -June 16, 2007

It really makes me angry to hear when people say that the ps3 has worse graphics than the xbox 360. If you look at what happened, the games that are being compared are xbox360 titles ported to the ps3. no crap they're gonna look worse, they're ported and they were designed for another machine. Don't use crappy comparisons like, "Oh fight night looked better on the 360!" NO **** IT WAS MEANT FOR THE 360. I would love to see a game developed for the ps3 and then ported to the 360, then we'll see who has the better graphics.

Pedroz -July 2, 2007

iv had both 360 and ps3 xbox 360 is a great console but fear of the 3 red lights coming up every time you turn on ur console was anoth to make me trade for the ps3, the only fault i have with the ps3 is not enough games.

McClaine -July 9, 2007

Well I can safely say that the PS3 which I have just purchased is as usual an amazing machine from SONY! Like a lot of people out there I have been witness to all consoles and can definately say that SONY always seems to come up trumps. Again as most have commented - time will tell all and only SONY can improve its games titles for the future. But at the end of the day - EACH TO THEIR OWN!!!

Wolf -July 12, 2007

PS3 IS DA BEST I HAV 1 AND IT HAS DA BEST CPU DA CELL AND DA BEST GPU RSX ITS TRUE DON'T READ STUFF ON NET MOST STUFF CRAP I HAV READ DEVELOPERS AND PROOF LUK AT KILLZONE 2 360 CAN'T DO IT LOL GIV PS3 TIME LOL AS SOON AS POTENTIAL REACHED BYE BYE 360.

If I was broke and couldnt buy a ps3 or have a crazy set up to fully appreciate the technology I'd be a ****** off ignorant 'fanboy' too, HAHA Viva La PS3. I spilled beer on my 360 and didnt flinch and laughed when i played exite truck at EB, enough said.

i bought a ps3 its so cool got a couple of games for it and i have already had the xbox360 and personally i think the ps3 has more power but they are both got there goods and bads

Name (required): -October 13, 2007

I will preface this by telling you that I am an electronics sales associate at Wal-Mart so I talk to a lot of people about this subject. I personally own a Wii. I've got coworkers who have PS3's and 360's and I have access to the demos for them we have set up in store.

I completely disagree with you about the Wii. While it isn't the technological giant that PS3 and 360 are, it doesn't have to be. Nintendo has always been about the games and the gaming experience, and they have outdone themselves this time in the regard. If I want a dvd player I will get a dvd player. If I want the high end bleeding graphics I will get a PC game and hook it into the PC or HTMI jack of a HDTV. Expecting something as small as a gaming console to do all of those things and do them well is simply unrealistic.

I'm clearly not alone in this regard, witnessed by the phenomenal sales and demand for the Wii. I get calls on the Wii probably 10:1 vs any other console and let me tell you that if Nintendo could keep up with demand they would even be outselling the PS2 which is the best selling system at our store despite it's age. PS3's price drops have increased the PS3 sales and the launched of Halo 3 and Bioshock have increased 360 sales but only marginally. While Microsoft continues to have significant hardware failures. One day about a month ago we took back 3 defective XBOX360's. I've only heard of 2 or 3 defective PS3's and only one Wii and talking to the customer (who returned it to another store so I didn't see it), I'm not sure it was really defective. Wii is clearly going to be the system to get this Christmas.

To answer another readers question: the best game on the Nintendo Wii is Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess. It's the game Nintendo designed to be a flagship game and really show off what the Wii can do.

I currently own the all the "next-gen" systems. I like them all but I do have a few rants about each.

The Wii is an impressive little machine! Although it may not have the high end graphics as the ps3 and Xbox360 do, it is fun. Isn't that what game systems are all about? Fun? Well anyway if you REALLY want fun games with some of the great graphics, get Crysis for the PC. It is a fantastic game with graphics the same as the 360's. Overall the Wii is a great system for anyone of all ages and is a system that doesn't have many faults but the gameplay can be confusing for select games.

The ps3 is also a good system. It features many great games and has fantastic graphics. The wireless controller is a bonus too. It does have its faults though.... The online play sucks but I know as time goes on, it will be on par, or even better that the 360's online play. Another bad thing is that mostly ALL of the FUN games on ps3 are rated M. Sorry kiddies. Overall the ps3 isn't all that appealing to kids but if you're 17 or older (or if your parents don't really care what games you play) the ps3 is a great system.

The 360 is a wonderful system as well. Although it has many faults ("red ring of death", game freezing etc.) it's still pretty fun. I think the Xbox360 isn't all it's cracked up to be though. Most people that bought the 360 bought it for titles such as Halo 3 and Bioshock that they knew were going to be on it, not for fun and a variety of games ( I'm talking about YOU Tony Haan, if you're reading this). The 360 currently has the BEST online play available at the moment and has great online gaming but is the only system that doesnt feature a wireless controller. I guess that's not too bad but hey, some people like to move around when playing. Overall the 360 is good and is recommended by me anytime (as long as you fork over some extra cash for a warranty). Ponder that and YOU decide which you want to buy.

By the way Name (required) I have Super Mario Galaxy. It's a great game and i give it 5 Stars.

Hilarious assessment, some truth, PS3 most powerful yes, best graphics yes, most fun and best games? Um no, it's funny that PS3 fanboys only ever refer to 'call of duty" A true gamer plays many games, but it seems you are all dedicated to COD.Like its the only game in existense.

Now I have a PS3 and a Wii and the Wii wins hands down. Problem with the Wii, not enough adult titles is true and old graphics is true. However for pure fun and enjoyment - out performs xbox and ps3 on every level even for adults.

1. Play Medal of Honour; Heroes 2 on Wii 2. Resident Evil 4 (Wii edition better than any other playform by a mile) Google search it 3. Mad World (most violent game ever, yes it's on the Wii and loads of fun) 4. Metroid: Corruption 3 - awesome 5. PES 2010 (yes I have fifa 09 on PS# and PS3 is the bgetter soccer game BUT only just......) 6. PES 2010 on the Wii, you control the whole team, not one player, you can position using the Wii pointer, run attack, decoys into spaces, on every player it is revolutionary, instead of controllig 1 guy and AI doing the rest..... 7. Super Mario Galaxy (huge game for true gamers) 8. Super Smash bro brawl (best game ever, try it, you wont put it down)

So with all of the above sorry the power consoles just dont get it......

and Last but not least in sales the Wii has owned PS3 and Xbox combined....

Due my wife plays her Wii fit games, my kids play their animal crossing games and when all have gone to bed, I get mad world out and go nuts!

Until You try Resi 4 on Wii, PES 2010 on Wii, Metroid on Wii, and Mad World... You cannot comment...........

And I love my PS3, just love the Wii more -

folks, if you want the truth. None of these systems are good. Microsoft, and sony aren't good at making video games. They just steal everyone's money by making the systems play cd's, dvd's, and blu-rays. It's ridiculous, a video game system was made to play VIDEO GAMES, not dvds or cds, etc. All nintendo has to do, is update the nintendo 64 system. How hard is that? Why can't nintendo possibly see that the n64 was the best system ever to go on the market, it just lacked the data storage, and needed to use discs, instead of cartridges. Nintendo...... Are you listening to what your consumers want?
