Apple Takes iTunes to the Air

I dump on Apple Computer when they deserve it, but this idea is cool: This week, Apple unveiled its new AirPort Express with AirTunes, a mobile wireless base station that you plug directly into a power outlet. Resembling an Apple power supply brick, the AirPort Express offers all kinds of terrific wireless functionality for both Macintosh and PC users. First, it's an 802.11g base station, so you can use it to share an Internet connection. It includes a USB port for wirelessly sharing any USB printer. It includes an audio-out port, so you can connect it to your home stereo and wirelessly broadcast songs to the unit from iTunes. And you can even use it as a wireless extender for extending the broadcast range of your existing wireless network. Because the unit is so small, you can take it on the road to share Internet connections in hotel rooms, or place them around the house as you need.

Oh, the article starts off bad ("I dump..."), but it sounds like the AirPort Express and AirTunes is one hell of an idead.

I liked the idea so much that I pre-ordered one yesterday. Not that I expect them to meet the "Mid-July" ship date of course.

I also pre-ordered one yesterday. The idea is too good to pass. Now they only have to solve the problem in the car.....

Sounds great, playing your iPod through ahome stereo. ... now how do I play my iPod through my car radio???

DoveCove -June 10, 2004

This is not for the iPod but for iTunes. You can play you iPod on any radio with the iTrip made by Griffin.
